When Do Beds Need To Be Replaced?

Beds are of course one of the most popular items that we will have in our homes and we all want to make sure that we get one that is as comfy as possible to ensure we do get a good sleep at night. The problem is that there are so many types out there on the market at any given time that it can end up being quite difficult trying to work out which one to buy so hopefully the following tips will prove to be quite useful.

First it may surprise you to find out that sleep experts believe that you should change your bed anywhere between every ten to fifteen years as it does tend to weaken over time and will not give you the support you need to get a good sleep. It has been shown that a bad, uncomfortable bed can reduce the quality of sleep you get each night by around 40 minutes so you can see that over the course of a week this can be a noticeable difference and of course lack of sleep has a number of knock on effects as well.

There are of course a number of tell tale signs that your beds are going to have to be replaced soon and one of the main ones is when you find that the base is sagging or indeed some of the supports may have even split. This does depend upon the type of bed you have bought, but do check the base under the mattress on a regular basis and remember to put your weight on it to see if it stays solid because if the base sags, then the mattress will as well and this will have an impact on the sleep you have.

Another sign is when your bed makes all kinds of noises when you get on or off it so do pay attention to various creaks and squeaks as it may indicate that there is some kind of a structural problem. You may also find that you and your partner roll into one another when you do not mean to do so as this is another indicator that all is not right with the bed itself and it is time to replace it.

Finally, your own body is capable of telling you when it is time to replace your bed because if you wake up and you are feeling stiff and sore, then you are not getting the right support during the night. You should also pay attention to how long it takes you to get comfortable when you lie down because if you take a while, then a change may be required as it should never be too difficult to find a comfy spot so you can then fall asleep.

So you should look at buying new beds approximately every ten to fifteen years and it has been shown that doing so, and making sure the mattress is the right one for you, will result in you sleeping better and, therefore, feeling better during the day. Do shop around and never settle on the first one you see and always try before you buy to stop you getting it home and discovering that it just does not quite work out between you and your partner.
